  • I made this frosting to go on top of cookies and it needed to fit all 13 of them without looking skimpy. This recipe was enough and then some for the cookies, so it should fit a wide variety of uses such as frosting for cakes.

  • Pure vanilla extract works best for this recipe, however, if you only have imitation vanilla then that is perfectly OK! Use whatever you have on hand at a 1:1 ratio.

  • You may use less powdered sugar depending on the sweetness level desired for this frosting recipe. Base whatever you’re using as the foundation for this recipe as the determiner for the sweetness of the frosting.

Ingredients

  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt

  • 8 oz block cream cheese

  • ¾ cup of powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Cooking Steps

Soften Cream Cheese

Take an 8 oz block cream cheese out of the fridge and set it out to soften in a bowl for about 30-60 mins.

*To speed up the process: heat the cream cheese in a microwave safe bowl for about 15 seconds on high. Continue warming in microwave in 10 sec intervals until desired softness.

Mix in Salt and Vanilla

Once the cream cheese is softened, add in 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract and 1/8 teaspoon of salt to the bowl with cream cheese. Continue to mix until all ingredients are well combined.

Stir in Powdered Sugar

Add in ¾ cup of powdered sugar into cream cheese mixture until smooth. Once completely combined and smooth, chill until ready to use.
