Scalloped Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 4 large golden potatoes

  • 3 Tbsp butter

  • 3 Tbsp flour

  • 1 ½ cup milk (1400ml)

  • 8oz shredded cheese (230g)

  • Salt & pepper

  • Cayenne pepper, to taste 

Cooking Steps

Prep Ingredients

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x9 baking dish. Melt 3 Tbsp butter on medium-low heat in a small saucepan. Thinly slice 4 large golden potatoes. 

Make Cheese Sauce

Stir in 3 Tbsp. flour into melted butter. Slowly whisk in milk and season with salt, pepper, and cayenne. 

Cook on low until smooth and boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and stir in ⅔ of the 8oz shredded cheese. 

Assemble

Place half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the baking dish. Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes. Repeat once more for a second layer. Sprinkle remaining cheese over top. 

Finish

Bake uncovered for 35-40 min., or until potatoes can be pierced with a fork. Let cool for 5 minutes and then serve!
