Super Crispy Tofu- No Frying
No fryer needed! This crispy tofu isn’t oily and brings the crunch you’ve been seeking. Pairs perfectly with barbeque sauce for plant-based wings.

Ingredients
16 oz firm tofu (pressed) (450g)
1 cup sparkling water (240ml)
¾ cup flour (90g)
2 Tbsp cornstarch
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp onion powder
1 tsp cayenne powder, optional
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 cup panko breadcrumbs (120g)
Cooking Steps
Prep
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the pressed tofu into triangles (or whatever shape you desire).
Make Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together sparkling water, flour, cornstarch, and spices to form a batter.
In a separate medium bowl, stir together panko breadcrumbs and salt & pepper, to taste.
Batter the Tofu
Add the tofu in batches to the batter, making sure all sides are coated.
Transfer the tofu to the bowl with breadcrumbs, coating all sides.
Finally, place the tofu on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake
Once all tofu has been coated, bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 min., or until golden brown and crispy.
* Be sure to flip the pieces halfway through baking.
Remove from the oven and toss in sauce or serve with sauce on the side.
